How to Plan an Elopement in the Canadian Rockies
If you’re here. that likely means that you have started to plan out your dream of getting married in the great Canadian Rockies! Let me tell you, you will NOT be disappointed. There is a reason that Banff is one of the top 10 places in the world to visit. Imagine getting to have your wedding day here surrounded by glacier-fed lakes, the most incredible mountaintop sunrises, standing below a waterfall or putting on your hiking boots and climbing up to your elopement ceremony spot. The perfect locations for your ceremony and wedding photos are endless! You give me some ideas of what your dream mountain location looks like and we’ll make it happen!
I am BIG on chasing your dreams, breathing in the fresh air, and soaking up that simple, beautiful, awe-inspiring feeling of being fully and completely alive in the moment. Your intimate wedding/elopement day should have every single one of those feelings. I want you to show up on your wedding day with the biggest smiles on your faces, knowing that you are choosing that day to say yes to your best friend for life!
Now I know firsthand that trying to plan such an important day in a location that you have never been to before can be daunting. Rest easy, planning your wedding day around Banff is actually quite simple and stress-free! (Just the way I believe all wedding days should be! Easy, carefree, and filled with SO much joy!) Below I’ll share with you the steps to planning your elopement in the Canadian Rockies without feeling overwhelmed!
1. Start brainstorming. Write down ideas of what you want your day to look like. Maybe you want your ceremony in a beautiful mountain meadow with your closest friends and family, alongside a beautiful, picturesque lake, or you want to add in an insane adventure and jump on a helicopter to elope standing tippy top on a mountain at sunset. Summer, winter, spring or fall, all seasons have their different perks! So be sure to think about what time of year you think you’d want to come to Banff to elope.
2. Ok you have your rough ideas in mind, now what? Well, you reach out to your photographer (That’s me!) and share with me the vision you have for your day. Once we get to chat a bit about what your dream day looks like, we can nail down a date we get you booked in and start to plan out your day.
3. When working with me, you don’t just get photos, but I am here to help you with all of your wedding planning, picking out the best photo locations, and giving you a curated list of the other vendors that you want for your day. That being a florist, makeup/hair artist, wedding commissioner, Helicopter company…etc. I have an amazing team of people to make your wedding dreams come true!
4…. That’s it! That’s all. 3 steps. No family drama, wedding planning stress, or feeling the guilt that you need to invite 30 cousins you haven’t seen in 5 years or any of that other fluff. Just you two, the closest people in your life and a breathtaking mountain view.
Below are photos from various elopements and intimate weddings I have shot. Some of the locations below are hidden gems, and some are well-known spots like Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, Lake Minnewanka, Bow lake, Peyto Lake, Emerald Lake and Takkakkaw Falls.
